Clearing SR 410 Chinook Pass after its winter closure is no easy task. It's a team effort between clearing the many, many feet of snow and triggering avalanches on the 100 or so avalanche paths on the route. Here's a look at the effort that went into reopening the highway this year. Oh, yeah, also. ...SR 410 Chinook and SR 123 Cayuse passes are now OPEN!!! | WSDOT

The first mile of the new SR 509 Expressway is opening soon. We’re opening this mile now because every bit helps. It’ll provide an alternate route for freight to the ports and industrial areas by SeaTac, which helps manage congestion on I-5 and other local roads. That’s good news—even if you don’t use it. | WSDOT

UPDATE 12:30 p.m. Sunday: Work continues on reopening the passes and crews are managing massive amounts of snow and ice. I-90 Snoqualmie and US 97 Blewett passes will open later today, but we do not yet have an ETA. Please do not head out or start lining up at closure points until we provide an update in the early evening. When we are able to reopen passes it will be to get freight moving - any other trips should continue to be delayed as more work remains to make roads ready for general traffic

It seems like everyone has gotten this text, even our team here at WSDOT. This is a scam. A fraud. A fake. A PHONY. How do you spot fake? Each scam is a little different, but here are the red flags for this one: - Any REAL texts you’d receive about Washington tolls would ONLY ever link to MyGoodToGo.com. - There’s no such thing as the Washington Department of Motor Vehicles - There’s no such thing as WAC 15C-16.003 - The Washington State Department of Licensing would never send a text like this.

While the sun has been shining this week, up in our passes there’s still some signs of winter. The warmer weather loosened the snow pack on US 2 Stevens Pass Thursday so our avalanche crew did some control work in the afternoon. Quite a bit of snow came down and took awhile to clear. Nice job, team! | WSDOT

It's going to be a long winter so please continue to keep road crews safe. Slow down, be patient, give them room and let them help you get where you're going safely! | WSDOT

Reminder! Plan for significant daytime delays approaching the State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 15. The bridge will reduce to one lane of travel while we replace a 16-foot hydraulic cylinder. We have to close one lane during the work for the large crane needed to lift the 6,000-pound piece of equipment out and replace it with a new one. We’re working in a tight space close to other critical parts on the bridge and need daylight to see. In this instance, the overhea

While Work Zone Safety Awareness month is winding down, our commitment to our road workers and work zone safety remain the same. We’ve shared stories of frontline crews, written blogs, shared photos and videos, talked with the media, lawmakers and ordinary folks like you and me! But the ongoing need to keep everyone safe remains unchanged. Road crews are spouses, children, grandparents, siblings and friends and they all deserve to go home to their loved ones at the end of their shifts. Please sl

Behind the scenes, at our Transportation Management Center and Emergency Operation Center, our teams monitor the roadways, respond to incidents, get vital information out to crews in the field quickly... and that's just scratching the surface. Our experienced emergency management staff advise crews on what’s actively happening across the region, coordinate with the national weather service, keep tabs on roadway conditions and shift resources. It’s all part of our commitment to make sure that dur

The elk ground team reports that winter has officially arrived at Snoqualmie Pass. ❄️ This weekend gave us a little taste of winter weather in the mountain passes. But according to @nws, it gets real starting Tuesday night. A winter storm is expected. Now more than ever, it’s crucial to make sure your vehicle is ready for snowy conditions AND that you’re keeping an eye on our mountain pass conditions. Don’t want to hear you say ... that you don’t have any use for tire chains. You do. Yes, even if you have AWD/4WD. With snow expected in the passes this weekend, now is a good time to get in the habit of carrying chains as part of your winter driving kit AND practice installing them before you head out. If a “tire chains required” advisory pops up on our digital signs, be prepared to pull over and chain up. “But I have AWD/4WD!” Great! When our mountain pass advisories read “tire chains required
